A business visa Indonesia issues covers meetings, negotiations, buying goods and site visits. It does not permit you to work — and that boundary is narrower than most visitors assume.
What it does and does not allow
It allows you to attend meetings, negotiate and sign contracts, buy goods, and inspect a supplier or a site.
It does not allow you to work — to perform services, to fill a role, or to be paid by an Indonesian entity. Even unpaid work for your own company here can fall the wrong side of the line.
The distinction is not about payment. It is about the nature of the activity, and immigration takes it more seriously than visitors expect.
The question worth asking honestly
Before applying, describe what you will actually do here — not the label on the trip.
“Overseeing our new office for six weeks” is not a business visit, whatever it is called on the form. If the honest description is closer to working, the right route is a work permit KITAS, and it is far better to establish that now than at immigration.

What do you need to know before you can quote?
Whether you need single entry or multiple entry, and if multiple, whether it should run for one, two, three or five years. We also ask what you are coming to Indonesia to do, so we can check the visa actually fits the purpose. Beyond that, a passport copy, a photograph, and bank statements where they apply. The fee breakdown comes with the quotation.
How long does it take once you have the documents?
Usually about one to one and a half weeks, provided nothing interrupts the process.
Can a business visa be extended without leaving Indonesia?
It depends which one you hold. A single-entry visa can be extended without leaving. A multiple-entry visa cannot be extended: when it expires, the holder applies for a new one.
What do you need from the traveller and from their company?
The traveller's passport copy, photograph and bank statements. From the sponsor company, the deed (akta), the ministerial approval and an online visa account with the immigration office — where we are not acting as sponsor ourselves.
What happens if an application is refused?
It depends on the reason. We make sure an application is complete before it goes in, but the decision belongs to the immigration office and we cannot guarantee it.
