A social visa Indonesia issues, a tourist or visit visa, or a stay permit for family: this covers every stay that is not for work or investment. That includes the spouse, children and parents of someone resident here, the family of an Indonesian citizen, and former citizens coming home.
We handle each, acting as sponsor where one is needed, and track the extensions that catch people out.
Which one applies
A holiday or a family visit. Many nationalities enter visa-free or on a visa on arrival for 30 days. A longer stay, or one arranged before travel, is the single-entry visit visa (C1), for 60 days and extendable to 180 — or, for repeated visits, the multiple-entry tourist visa (D1). The old B211A code is no longer used.
Social activities. One social-activities visit visa (C6) now covers the humanitarian and volunteer visits that used to have separate indices.
Joining a spouse or parent who holds a KITAS. A family permit, sponsored by that family member and never running longer than their own permit. This is the usual route for families relocating together.
Married to an Indonesian citizen. A separate family route (E31A), and one that allows the spouse to work to support the family.
Former Indonesian citizens and their descendants. A route of their own (E32), and the Global Citizen of Indonesia visas, which lead straight to permanent stay.
Retiring, or keeping a second home. The second-home route, which includes a separate route for those aged 55 and over. Its amounts are set out in our guide to the golden visa.
What each code permits is explained in the guide to Indonesia visa categories.
Two things families get wrong
Documents. Marriage and birth certificates issued abroad need a sworn Indonesian translation unless they are in English, and we tell you before you travel whether anything else is needed. That is far easier to arrange before you leave than after.
Working. A tourist or social visit visa does not allow paid work, and a family permit does not by itself permit employment — the exception is the spouse or child of an Indonesian citizen, whom the Immigration Law allows to work. Anyone else who takes a job puts their permit and their sponsor’s at risk. If a spouse intends to work, plan for a work permit from the outset.
Why MAM for Tourist, family & social visas
- Your family in their own language
The team works in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Urdu and Tamil — a dependant's application should not require the sponsor to interpret every step.
- Dependants tied to the right sponsor permit
Where we also handle your KITAS, a dependant’s application is built on documents we already hold.
- A person to ask, at short notice
Family matters do not wait for office hours to become urgent. You have a named contact who knows the household's case, and we aim to reply the same working day.
Qualified, and accountable for it
MAM's work is done by qualified accountants and carried out to the standards of these professional bodies — not by a general administrator following a checklist.
